Notes on the system, and some of the abbrevations contained above:
MDJ - Magisterial District Judge, lowest level judge, handles bail and preliminary hearings
CCP - Court of Common Pleas, where trial court judges reside
Superior - Superior Court, first stage criminal appellate court, below PA Supreme Court
MDA - Docket type for standard appeal
MDM - Docket type for miscellaneous filings, including allowance for interlocutory appeal, and petition for review of collateral issue such as bail
Pa.C.S. - Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, much but not all penal law is found here; citation includes preceding Title, and following section of statute, generally

The shortest course to conviction is approximately and generally as follows:
Arrest and/or criminal complaint on probable cause
Preliminary arraignment, notifying defendant of charges, bail, right to counsel
Preliminary hearing, to find a prima facie case against defendant
Filing of information by prosecution and subsequent formal arraignment (indictment has mostly disappeared from the PA court system)
Trial, by jury or bench (the type first depending on the max jail sentence if convicted, and then at the behest of the parties)
